Region of Waterloo businesses must hire their own contractors for garbage collection. Please refer to the Yellow Pages of the telephone book for a listing of licensed haulers who provide this service.
How to set up a commercial account
To set up a commercial landfill account with the Region of Waterloo, please complete and mail or fax an Application for Credit to:

The Waterloo and Cambridge waste management sites are open regular hours to commercial customers only on all statutory and designated holidays except Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Waste reduction and recycling for businesses
Blue box collection:
Region of Waterloo businesses are eligible to receive blue box recycling collection only if the business is located on an existing municipal curbside collection route. Businesses not meeting this criteria must hire their own contractors for recycling collection. To determine if your business is eligible for Regional recycling collection, please email or call the Waste Management Division at 519-883-5100

There is a maximum of three blue boxes and three bundles of corrugated cardboard allowed per eligible business. Note: corrugated cardboard must be broken down to no larger than 75 cm x 75 cm x 20 cm (30"x30"x8") and tied.
Electronic recycling:
Businesses interested in recycling electronic equipment should refer to http://www.recycleyourelectronics.ca/.
Businesses seeking assistance with diversion should contact their current hauler, the yellow pages in the phone book or our Workplace Waste Reduction Directory.
Workplace Waste Reduction Directory
The Workplace Waste Reduction Directory has been provided by the Region of Waterloo to help industries, commercial businesses and institutions divert waste and recyclables from landfill. This directory lists companies (many of them local) who either provide waste management services and/or accept materials which may otherwise be landfilled.

Commercial hazardous waste disposal
The Region of Waterloo's landfill sites are not licensed to receive hazardous waste from industrial or commercial sources. Disposal of hazardous waste in local sanitary landfills is a serious offence under current Provincial Legislation.
Please refer to your telephone book for a list of licensed haulers capable of handling industrial and commercial hazardous wastes.
Further information regarding proper disposal procedures and guidelines can be obtained by contacting the Ministry of the Environment.
