Waterloo Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade
The Region of Waterloo completed a Master Plan for wastewater treatment within the entire Region in 2007. One of the projects identified in the Master Plan is an upgrade the Waterloo Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).
This upgrade will improve effluent quality for the Grand River and maintain reliability by replacing aging equipment at the plant. Additionally, the Region is undertaking an Environmental Assessment study for the replacement and upgrade of stand-by power at the Waterloo WWTP.
The Region, through its consultants AECOM, is currently completing the final design. Construction is proceeding by means of four general construction awards. Contracts 1 and 2 were awarded in 2009, with Contract 1 completed in November 2010 and Contract 2 scheduled for completion in November 2011. Contract 3 was awarded in November 2010 and Contract 4 will be awarded in November 2011.
