Meet Brenda Halloran

Brenda Halloran was re-elected Mayor of the City of Waterloo on October 25, 2010 and in her role as Mayor is a member of Waterloo Regional Council. Brenda first entered municipal politics in 2006 when she was elected Mayor of the City of Waterloo.

As Mayor of Waterloo, she also represents the City on the Boards of Directors for Waterloo North Hydro, Wilfrid Laurier University and University of Waterloo. As a member of Regional Council, Brenda is active on Regional Committees and on numerous working groups and project teams. During the 2006 - 2010 Term of Council in addition to her committee responsibilities, Brenda worked on the Crime Prevention Council, the Homelessness to Housing Stability Strategy Monitoring Committee, Long Term Budget Strategy Working Group, and the Regional Growth Management Strategy Steering Committee.

Prior to entering municipal politics, Brenda earned a Nursing diploma at Conestoga College followed by a career in nursing that took her to Florida and Toronto where she gained experience in the intensive care unit and recovery room, and work with emotionally disturbed children and adolescents, children with disabilities and seniors in a home for the aged. Further studies at Ryerson University in business and public relations opened up a new career path in the business world where Brenda held positions as Sales Manager for an air freight forwarding company and as Customs and Traffic Manager for a large international trading company. On returning to Waterloo, she spent 16 years with the Canada Revenue Agency in several positions - most recently as an Alternate Dispute Resolution Advisor just before her election as Mayor of Waterloo.

In the community Brenda was active on the Ralgreen Homeowners Association. She went on to participate in Leadership Waterloo Region and was a graduate of the Class of 2004.

Brenda was honoured with the Women of Resistance Award from Wilfrid Laurier University. She was recently named Chair of the Intelligent Community Association and was proud to receive an Honorary Professorship from the Yunnan University in Kunming China.

Brenda Halloran lives in Waterloo with her husband Fred Brandenburg and her daughter, Liz.
