Doug Craig was re-elected Mayor of the City of Cambridge on October 25, 2010 and in his role as Mayor, is also a member of Regional Council.

Doug was first elected as an Alderman from Hespeler in 1976 and served two terms, until 1980. He was elected both a City and Regional Councillor in 1991 and served three terms until 2000. During that time he was Chair of the City Planning Committee and served on the Youth Task Force and Contaminated Sites committees.

As a Regional Councillor, Doug has participated on numerous committees, working groups and studies over the years. More recently, he worked on Licensing & Retail Committee, the Region Transportation Master Plan, Franklin Boulevard Widening EA project team, South Boundary Road EA project team, Hespeler Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade Study, and the Long Term Budget Strategy Working Group.

Doug had a rewarding 25-year career as an elementary school teacher until he retired from Silver Heights Public School in 2000 to run as Mayor. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In addition to his Council work, he served four terms on the Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Commission, one term as Chair. He also hosted the program "Municipal Affairs" for 9 years on Rogers Community Cable and was an urban affairs columnist for the Cambridge Times for 4 years.

In what little spare time he has from his municipal duties, Doug writes short stories based on the Cambridge community, which he is publishing as separate small books and hopes someday to bring together into a celebratory anthology.

The Craig family - Doug, his wife Virginia and their two sons - have lived in Cambridge for more than 36 years.
