Meet Jim Wideman

Jim Wideman Web Pic .jpgJim Wideman was re-elected Regional Councillor representing Kitchener on October 25, 2010.

He was first elected Regional Councillor in November 2000 and was subsequently re-elected in November 2003 and 2006. Before joining Regional Council, Jim was a trustee for the Waterloo District School Board for six years, during which he served a term as Chair of the Board. Jim was also a Councillor on Wellesley Township Council for five years.

As a Regional Councillor, Jim serves on all standing committees of Council. He has served as Chair of Planning & Works Committee since 2003 and was recently reappointed Chair for the 2010-2014 term. In addition to his standing committee responsibilities, Jim has chaired and served on numerous other Regional committees, project teams, studies and working groups - more recently - Economic Development & Promotion Committee (Chair), Audit Committee, Water Efficiency Advisory Committee (Chair), Trees By-law Exception Committee (Chair), Licensing & Retail Committee, Long Term Budget Strategy working group, Region of Waterloo Community Housing Inc. (ROWCHI), Grand River Hospital Board, Biosolids Master Plan Upgrade, Bridgeport Bridge Rehabilitation and Bridge St. Improvements project team, Kitchener Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades, Manitou Drive Biosolids Dewatering Facility project team, Ottawa St. S./Fischer-Hallman Rd. Operation & Safety study, Ottawa St. Transportation Study project team, Queen St. Reconstruction project team, Regional Development Charges working group, Transportation Master Plan steering committee, RGMS steering committee, Tri-City Water Distribution Master Plan, River Rd. Extension project team and Weber St. Widening EA.

Active in the community, Jim is a founding member of Mothers Against Drunk Driving and he spent twelve years on the Board of Governors with Goshen College.
