Public Health and Emergency Services

The Public Health and Emergency Services Department provides two health services, both cost-shared with and mandated by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.

Public Health works to build healthy and supportive communities in partnership. This is accomplished through activities which promote and protect health, and prevent disease.

Paramedic Services decreases illness and death by providing pre-hospital paramedic care and hospital transport. It has as areas of focus: ensuring excellence in patient care; meeting Council-determined response time targets; and increasing awareness and availability of Public Access Defibrillators.

The divisions within Public Health and Emergency Services are:

  • Central Resources
  • Child and Family Health
  • Emergency Management Office
  • Health Protection and Investigation
  • Healthy Living
  • Infectious Disease, Dental/Sexual Health
  • Medical Officer of Health
  • Paramedic Services
