Sandy Shantz was elected Mayor of Woolwich Township on October 27, 2014 and in her role as Mayor is also a member of Waterloo Regional Council.

Sandy has lived within Woolwich for the past 30 years, and has a liberal arts background with a focus in Business, Psychology, and Religious Studies. Sandy began her political career in 1997, having been elected to the Waterloo Region District School Board, serving until 2003, and also served as the board's Chair from 2000 to 2002. Sandy also served her community as a member of Woolwich Township Council, from 2006 to 2010. Sandy has held executive-level positions in Education, Recreation, Church, and Healthcare. Most recently, Sandy chaired the Woolwich Community Services Capital Fundraising campaign, which raised over 1 million dollars for a new facility.

As both Mayor of Woolwich and a Regional Councillor, Sandy believes in the importance of focusing on establishing and strengthening a culture of respect between local government and businesses, volunteers, and other levels of government. Sandy also plans to focus on economic development, as well as partnering with other levels of government in order to deal with the cost of infrastructure.

Sandy resides in Elmira with her husband Brian and has three sons, Adam, Brad and Luke.
