Substance Use

The Waterloo Region Crime Prevention Council works in many ways to bring awareness to issues related to substance use. The approach is meant to offer support and to reduce the stigma users face.

Integrated Drugs Strategy

The Crime Prevention Council is leading a task force to develop a Waterloo Region Integrated Drugs Strategy focused on four areas:

• Prevention
• Harm Reduction
• Recovery & Rehabilitation
• Enforcement & Justice

The strategy will be released later this year (2011).

In The Mind's Eye

In the Mind's Eye: Issues of Substance Use in Film + Forum provides a rare glimpse into issues of substance use and addiction, often from the perspective of people with real-life experience.

The series, which includes workshops, speakers and films, allows viewers to see life through the eyes of a person suffering with an addiction. This free series runs every October and November at locations throughout Waterloo Region.
