Regional service changes for Thanksgiving Day

Waterloo Region – Here is a list of Region of Waterloo service changes for Thanksgiving Day.

What’s open on October 11:

Regional of Waterloo Customer Service line, 24/7 - 519-575-4400.

Grand River Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule. Plan your trip.
GRT Customer Service Centre location hours:

  • 105 King St. E., Kitchener | 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • 35 Ainslie St. S., Cambridge | 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The GRT Operations Centre at 250 Strasburg Rd. in Kitchener remains closed to the public.

GRT Customer Service, 24/7 at 519-585-7555.

Region of Waterloo International Airport is open to the public but administrative offices are closed.

Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum is open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Garbage, blue box, green bin, yard waste and bulky items:
There is regular curbside collection on Monday, October 11. Items should be set out to the curb by 7 a.m. 

Following Thanksgiving, is a Double Garbage week (eight garbage bags or cans allowed for a single-family home) on your garbage collection day. Double Garbage week for Kitchener and the townships is the week of October 11 to 15. For Cambridge and Waterloo, it is the week of October 18 to 22.

What’s closed on October 11:

Cambridge and Waterloo waste sites (gate #2) are closed for residential drop-off.

All Regional Administrative Offices (99 Regina – Waterloo, 150 Frederick – Kitchener, 150 Main – Cambridge, Airport Administrative offices). This includes the Welcome Spaces and Home Child Care administration.

Schneider Haus National Historic Site and McDougall Cottage Historic Site are closed.

All Region of Waterloo Library branches will be closed. Please visit our website for branch sites and opening hours. For more information on our online programs and events, please visit rwlibrary.ca/virtualprograms.

Cambridge and Waterloo waste sites are closed. 

Sunnyside Home reception and administration are closed.

Sunnyside Wellness Centre remains closed for all services with the exception of physiotherapy, foot care and hearing clinic appointments.

Community Alzheimer Day Program – Kitchener, Cambridge and Waterloo locations are closed.
