Construction update: Fischer-Hallman / Bearinger Road, Waterloo, April–July 2025
Columbia Street to Westmount Road
Project update
The Region is continuing improvements on Fischer-Hallman/Bearinger Road from Columbia Street to Westmount Road in Waterloo. We are moving into the final stages of this work, which include:
- Watermain and storm sewer upgrades through the Bearinger Road and Westmount Road intersection
- Finishing the east side boulevard between Columbia Street and Laurelwood Drive
- Installing the west side multi-use path between Columbia Street and Laurelwood Drive
- Adding new curb and gutter, street lighting and multi-use paths between Laurelwood Drive and Westmount Road
Timing
Work in this area will continue until July 2025.
Final surface asphalt paving will occur between July and August 2026.
Closures and lane reductions
The Bearinger Road and Westmount Road intersection will have reduced lanes from April 15–May 9. Two-way traffic will be maintained in all directions.
Bearinger Road from east of Westmount Road to Laurelwood Drive will remain closed to all through traffic until June 2025.
Pedestrian access
The east side multi-use path from Columbia Street to Laurelwood Drive will be closed from April 16–25.
The Grand River Conservation Authority Doreen Thomas Trail between Laurelwood Drive and Westmount Road will be reopening on April 17.
The west side sidewalk from Columbia Street to Laurelwood Drive will be closed from April 25–May 30.
Detour
The detour around Bearinger Road remains Laurelwood Drive and Westmount Road.
There may be periods during construction when traffic will need to travel on a gravel surface, as well as times when traffic will need to be controlled by flag people. Please plan for some delays and travel carefully in the construction zone.
Emergency Services (Police, Fire, Paramedics) have been notified of the construction, closures and detours to minimize any disruptions to services.
