Construction notice: Bearinger Road closure, City of Waterloo, December 2024–June 2025

Laurelwood Drive–Westmount Road

About the project

The Region is completing improvements on Bearinger Road/Fischer-Hallman Road between Laurelwood Drive and Westmount Road in Waterloo. Improvements include new asphalt multi-use paths along both sides of the street, street lighting, a new watermain and stormwater/drainage improvements, and widening the road from two lanes to four.

Stage 1 of this project was from Columbia Street to Laurelwood Drive, which will be fully open when this closure begins.

Timing 

Fischer-Hallman Road between Columbia Street and Laurelwood Drive will be reopened, and Bearinger Road between Laurelwood Drive and Westmount Road will be closed, by end of day on Friday, December 13 through to June 2025.

Surface paving from Columbia Street to Westmount Road will be completed separately in the summer of 2026.

Closures

Bearinger Road will be closed to traffic between Laurelwood Drive and Westmount Road. Access will be maintained to local residential properties and businesses during the closure. Two-way traffic will be restored on Bearinger Road in May 2025.

Detour

The detour route will direct traffic to Westmount Road and Laurelwood Drive.

Emergency Services (Police, Fire, Paramedics) will be notified of this road closure and detour to minimize service disruption.

Pedestrian access

There are no existing pedestrian facilities on Bearinger Road. Pedestrians should use existing Laurelwood Drive and Westmount Road facilities.

Property and business access

All businesses in proximity to the construction area remain open and accessible during construction. Please plan for some delays and travel carefully around the construction zone. Please follow and obey the construction signs when you drive or walk around the construction area, for your safety and the safety of the workers.
