Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF) is refreshing its 20-year Growth Plan, mapping the future of this important community asset.  As Waterloo Region continues to grow, ensuring that the airport can meet future travel needs and continue to anchor the local aviation and aerospace sector is critical.

The Airport Growth Plan was last updated in 2017, and led to significant upgrades in infrastructure and service, including an expanded departures lounge for up to one million passengers, new outbound baggage system, self-service kiosks, expanded security lines and new food service by Stockyards Brewing. The refreshed plan identifies new opportunities for growth, partnership and sustainability at YKF.

A short survey looks for input on the five key themes of the Airport Growth Plan, including:

  • YKF as a mobility hub for one million residents
  • Just-in-time infrastructure strategy
  • Balancing growth and environmental sustainability
  • Aviation and aerospace sector development
  • Managing competing land uses

“By working together, we can ensure YKF continues to grow as an integral, sustainable gateway to the world, driving economic opportunity and connectivity for over one million residents,” said Karen Redman, Regional Chair. “Your input is crucial in crafting a vision that aligns with our shared values and aspirations."

The community is invited to complete the EngageWR survey that explores the key themes of the Airport Growth Plan and looks for resident input to guide long-term development. Get involved at www.engagewr.ca/ykf-growth-plan.

The Airport Growth Plan will return to Regional Council in early 2026 for final approval.
