Region of Waterloo library expands access to local history with a new digital platform
Waterloo Region –The Region of Waterloo Library (RWL) is excited to announce that their local history collection has moved to a new and improved website. The new site has the same digital resources as before but is easier to use. Searching is simpler, and you can now look for items by location or subject.
The site is also connected to the OurOntario online database. This lets patrons search RWL’s materials along with items from other libraries, museums, and historical groups across Ontario. This update makes research easier and gives access to more information in one place.
“Making our historical resources accessible for patrons is important for building community understanding and connection,” said Karen Redman, Chair of the Region of Waterloo. “This new platform improves access to local history materials and makes it easier for people to explore our community’s past.”
The collection includes many local resources that show the stories and history of our communities. These include the Tweedsmuir history books from the Ayr and Central Dumfries Women’s Institute groups, photo collections, church and library histories, and historical maps.
RWL invites everyone to explore the digital collection and learn more about our community’s past.
The current local history website will be available until December 31, 2025, but encourage patrons to explore the new site.
