Region celebrates largest class of Paramedic Services graduates and King Charles III Coronation Medal award recipient
Waterloo Region – Yesterday, Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services welcomed its largest graduating class of new recruits. More than 47 new paramedics were recognized yesterday in a ceremony attended by more than 350 friends, family and colleagues at Paramedic Services North Headquarters on Erb’s Road.
"Congratulations to all of the new recruits as you join Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services,” said Chair Karen Redman. “Paramedics provide vital emergency medical care to our rapidly growing community in Waterloo Region. We are grateful that you have chosen to work here.”
This latest recruitment supports the critical expansion of Paramedic Services across the region and comes as the direct result of key investments by Region of Waterloo Council.
The ceremony included several other special recognitions:
- Region of Waterloo Advanced Care Paramedic Jeffrey Bilyk was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal, one of only 25 awarded to paramedics in Ontario, for exceptional service as a paramedic and paramedic services educator.
- The memory of long-time Paramedic Dean Wick was celebrated with the naming of the Dean Wick Classroom at Paramedic Services Headquarters.
- Two retirees were recognized: Pamela Smith with over 30 years of service and Allan Clark with 20 years.
Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services responds to more than 55,000 9-1-1 calls annually, providing emergency medical services and community paramedicine programs for the region’s 700,000 residents.
