Construction notice: Fountain Street and Maple Grove Road roundabout update, City of Cambridge, September 14-15, 2024

Project update

As part of the Fountain Street and Maple Grove Road roundabout project, we will be moving into stage 3 of construction on September 14, 2024. This requires a full closure of the intersection to remove temporary traffic signals and install pavement markings for the new roundabout.

Timing 

This intersection will be fully closed starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, September 13 until 10 p.m. on Sunday, September 15.

On Monday, September 16 the intersection will open up as a temporary single lane roundabout for approximately 3-4 weeks.

The road will fully reopen over winter 2024/2025. Construction will start again for surface paving and project wrap up in spring 2025 and finish in early summer 2025.

Closures

During the weekend of September 14 and 15, the intersection will be fully closed. Emergency services have been notified of this closure to minimize disruptions.

Detour

Please use Cherry Blossom Road and Boxwood Drive to detour around the intersection. Detour map is provided.

There may be periods when traffic will need to travel on a gravel surface. Crews will be on hand to direct traffic when needed. Please plan for some delays, and when driving or walking through and around the construction zone follow and obey the construction traffic signage for your safety and the safety of the workers.

Pedestrian access

Sidewalks in this area will remain accessible during the project. Pedestrians should follow the signs as they walk through the site.

Property and business access

Every effort will be made to maintain access to residential driveways in the construction area during working hours (7 a.m.-7 p.m.). Construction activities may temporarily impact access to entrances. We will provide notice of any interruption in advance as much as possible.
