Celebrate the Places That Shaped Cambridge – Survey Launch for 'The Power of Nostalgia' Exhibit
Waterloo Region – McDougall Cottage Historic Site, part of Region of Waterloo Museums and Archives, has launched a public survey to gather stories and memories of Cambridge’s most nostalgic places. The collected feedback will help to shape a new exhibit, tentatively titled, The Power of Nostalgia, set to open in 2026. Residents and visitors—past and present—are invited to share the places that hold special meaning, and the memories tied to them. The places we gather shape our sense of belonging and community, and this exhibit will celebrate those spaces and their role in Cambridge’s history.
“The places we gather, celebrate and connect with one another are at the heart of our community,” shares Regional Chair, Karen Redman “This upcoming exhibit will recognize those places and experiences and highlight our shared community values of belonging and connection; past, present and future.”
The survey aims to gather nostalgic memories and stories about the schools, businesses, parks, workplaces, restaurants and recreational places that have shaped Cambridge’s history. From Shade's Mills Conservation Area to the Grand River, the local Legion to Galt Arena, cultural clubs, dance halls, high schools and roller skating rinks - these places, and so many others, have shaped the stories of Cambridge.
The survey is available online at engagewr.com/nostalgia-survey and in person at McDougall Cottage, 89 Grand Ave. S., Cambridge, ON until March 28th. Participants who complete the survey can enter for a chance to win a gift basket or four $100 gift cards to local businesses.
