Region of Waterloo Library and Township of Woolwich seeks public input on proposed Bloomingdale library branch location

Posted on Tuesday March 03, 2026

Waterloo Region – Region of Waterloo Library and the Township of Woolwich are inviting Bloomingdale residents and the wider Woolwich community to share feedback on a proposed new library branch location within the Bloomingdale Community Centre, located at 1031 Snyders Flats Road.

“Libraries are at the heart of strong, connected communities. Exploring a new location within the Bloomingdale Community Centre is an exciting opportunity to expand services, improve accessibility, and create a welcoming space that reflects the needs of our growing community,” said Woolwich Mayor Sandy Shantz. “I encourage residents to share their feedback and help shape the future of library services in Bloomingdale.”

Region of Waterloo Library branches are community hubs where people connect, learn, and access resources. The Township of Woolwich and the Region of Waterloo Library are exploring an opportunity to expand library services in Bloomingdale by creating a custom library space within the Bloomingdale Community Centre. Community feedback will help inform decision-making about the branch location and features.

“Libraries are community anchors; places to connect, learn, and gather. By re-envisioning the Bloomingdale community centre as an upgrade library branch, we’re building on a space residents value and making it more useful for the future,” said Natasha Salonen, Regional Councillor and Chair of the Region of Waterloo Library Committee. “I encourage the community to share their ideas as we move into this new to us space.”

The current Bloomingdale Library location at 860A Sawmill Road (Bloomingdale United Church) is approximately 400 square feet. The Bloomingdale Community Centre offers nearly 800 square feet of available space, which could support an expanded collection, public access computer and Wi-Fi and more varied programming. The Community Centre is municipally owned and operated, includes accessible features, and is located beside Bloomingdale Park.

Residents are encouraged to complete an online survey by March 23, 2026.

Community members can also attend an open house to tour the proposed location, ask questions, and complete a printed survey:

  • Tuesday, March 17, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, March 18, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
