Posted on Friday July 12, 2024

Waterloo Region, ON – Schneider Haus is celebrating PRIDE on Saturday, July 13, with a free outdoor market and elder talk in collaboration with Spectrum Waterloo Region's Rainbow Community Space and sponsored by Scotiabank. The event will feature local artisans, live music by Coraline James, free cookies, kid-friendly crafts, and glitter tattoos. This event was originally scheduled for June 22, but was rescheduled due to weather conditions.

The Pride Market will showcase a vibrant array of local vendors offering everything from arts and crafts to clothing and accessories, providing a unique shopping experience for attendees. Visitors can discover one-of-a-kind items and support 2SLGBTQIA+ businesses and artisans.

In addition to the market and family programming, a panel of 2SLGBTQIA+ elders will share their lived experiences in the outdoor amphitheatre to bridge generational gaps. The rainbow elders will share wisdom, reflect on the community's history, and discuss the progress toward equality.

“Events like Schneider Haus’s Pride Market are not just celebrations, they are important reminders of our ongoing commitment to equality and diversity, and ensuring everyone feels welcome in public spaces,” said Karen Redman, Chair of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo. “This event offers an opportunity to hear from 2SLGBTQIA+ voices and understand their experiences in a safe space.”

“Intergenerational connection is so important to young queer folks to understand the journey we’ve been on, how far we’ve come, and the work that needs to be done,” said Scott Williams, Executive Director of Spectrum Waterloo Region's Rainbow Community Space.

The Pride Market and Elder Talk is free and welcome to everyone. Attendees are encouraged to come together, celebrate diversity, and enjoy an afternoon filled with shopping, insightful discussions, and family fun.

This family event runs from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on July 13 at Schneider Haus National Historic Site.
Parking is available across from the site.

Regular Hours: Open Monday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
