Region of Waterloo Unveils Top Five Priorities to Becoming One-Million Ready During Provincial Election Campaign
Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo is releasing its top five priorities during the 2025 Provincial Election Campaign.
The Region of Waterloo is highlighting these priorities to make both voters and candidates aware of the municipality’s plans to deliver on quality of life and affordability for those who call Waterloo Region home. These priorities are rooted in ensuring our community is one-million ready. By 2050, Waterloo Region’s population is projected to reach one million people.
Partnership with the Province of Ontario will be required to make these priorities a reality:
- Bolstering our economy and sustaining our community in uncertain times
- Addressing the housing and homelessness crisis
- Dedicated support to manage aging assets and build housing-enabling infrastructure
- Expanded support for transit projects
- A new funding framework for the Region of Waterloo
“The Region of Waterloo is committed to becoming one-million ready. These priorities are key to our future quality of life and our economic success. Should stimulus money become available as a result of US imposed tariffs, Waterloo Region has projects ready that will bolster our workforce and protect our prosperity, all while building our community,” said Regional Chair Karen Redman. “We are a municipality known for innovation and collaboration. At a time of uncertainty, partnership is of utmost importance.”
Details on these election priorities have been circulated to each candidate in the 2025 Provincial Election. Advocacy and engagement will continue as the Region of Waterloo works to deliver on the priorities identified.
