Thank you to our Public Works teams!

Posted on Tuesday May 23, 2023

May 21 to May 27, 2003, is National Public Works Week (NPWW); an extra opportunity for us to recognize our employees in Engineering and Environmental Services, and Transportation Services, that deliver essential services to our community every day!

Did you know that our Public Works teams:

  • Manage over 153,371 tonnes of waste collected.
  • Care for over 30,000 trees.
  • Maintain over 1,400 intersections with traffic signals or stop signs.
  • Ensure the quality of over 61.7 million cubic metres of drinking water.
  • Treat over 57.4 million cubic metres of wastewater.
  • Process over 574,000 cubic metres of biosolids for use on agricultural lands and mine sites land reclamation.
  • Plan, build and manage over $1.1 billion worth of projects in the 10-year Transportation Capital Program that keep our community thriving.

This year’s NPWW theme recognizes Public Works employees’ hard work in connecting the world through essential public works services.

Right here at home, these teams work to keep us connected to the places we need to be, the services that make our community thrive, and the programs that improve our quality of life every day.

A big thank you and hats off to our Public Works teams!
