Construction notice: Scheifele Bridge, Woolwich, December 2025 – April 2026

Northfield Drive at Conestogo River

About the project

The Region of Waterloo will be replacing the Scheifele Bridge on Northfield Drive over the Conestogo River in Woolwich, starting in spring 2026. To access the site during construction, some trees need to be removed ahead of time.

The Region has hired a tree-removal company to complete this work during the approved time window set by the Ministry of Environment, Cultural Heritage and Parks, which runs from December 1 to March 31 each year.

All trees that are removed will be replanted following the completion of the bridge construction.

Timing

The tree removal process will begin on or around December 1 and is expected to be complete by early 2026.

Traffic impacts

Lanes will need to shift during the work, but two-way traffic will remain open. Drivers should expect some delays because of nearby equipment and changing lane positions. Short-term lane closures may be needed to remove larger tree trunks. The Region will provide advance notice through on-road signs and on the project webpage.

Emergency Services (Police, Fire, Paramedics) have been notified of the construction, closures and detours to minimize any disruptions to services.

Oversized and slow-moving vehicles/buggies

Large trucks and farming equipment as well as buggies will continue to use Northfield Drive for access to businesses and area farms during the tree removals. Many of these vehicles are wider than conventional lane widths and move at slow speeds. Please be patient, drive slowly through the construction zone, yield to oncoming wide vehicles or equipment, and use caution when approaching slow moving vehicles from behind.

Pedestrian access

There is one sidewalk in this area. When walking or cycling through the construction zone please follow and obey the traffic signage for your safety.
