Car Sharing

Car sharing lets you use a car without owning one. Members gain access to vehicles on a self-serve, pay-per-use basis through membership programs. Car share programs help people use greener transportation modes like transit and cycling by giving you access to a vehicle only when you need it.

How the Region participates in car sharing

The Region of Waterloo has a contract with Communauto (previously VRTUCAR and Community Carshare) to provide publicly accessible car share vehicles and parking spaces at a number of our Regional sites. You require a Communauto membership to access the car share vehicles.

Regional employees can participate in a corporate car share membership. Regional employees can use the corporate car share membership during the work day to travel to meetings at locations that are not easily accessible by other modes of transportation. This reduces travel costs for the Region and supports employees to do their part to commute sustainably.
