Located in the heart of southwestern Ontario, Waterloo Region is close to major highways that easily connect to London, Stratford, Niagara and the Greater Toronto Area.
Intercity transportation services to and from Waterloo Region are provided by bus, rail and air
Once in Waterloo Region, there are many ways to get around.
Grand River Transit provides transit service in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Elmira, St. Jacobs and New Hamburg. GRT consists of ION light rail, an express bus network, conventional buses, busPLUS service for community routes and MobilityPLUS, a door-to-door transit service for riders with disabilities.
ION light rail started operation in June 2019 and runs between Conestoga Station in Waterloo and Fairway Station in Kitchener, with 19 stations along the route. ION Bus runs between Fairway Station and Ainslie Street Terminal in Cambridge.
Stage 2 ION will see ION bus converted to light rail, creating a seamless light rail route that stretches from Cambridge to Waterloo.
