Funding for Home Repairs

If you meet certain income eligibility criteria and own a home, you can apply for the Ontario Renovates Program. You may qualify for up to $25,000 in forgivable loans to keep your home in good repair or install accessibility features.
Who is eligible
You may qualify based on:
- Your income
- The assessed value of your home (Maximum of $505,469) (MPAC Assessment)

Examples of repairs
Repairs and rehabilitation
Examples of eligible repairs and rehabilitation include, but are not limited to:
- Building exterior such as roofs, walls or foundations
- Doors and windows
- Plumbing
- Fire safety
- Electrical systems
- Heating systems
- Mold remediation
Accessibility modifications
Examples of eligible accessibility modifications include, but are not limited to:
- Ramps
- Handrails
- Chair and bath lifts
- Height adjustments to counter tops
- Cues for doorbells/fire alarms
- Bathroom modifications
How to apply
Complete the Ontario Renovates application form and send it by fax to 519-575-4026, by email at OntarioRenovates@regionofwaterloo.ca or by mail. You can also drop it off at one of the following Regional offices:
- 20 Weber St. E., Kitchener, ON N2H 1C3
- 150 Main St., Cambridge, ON N1R 6R1
- 99 Regina St. S., Waterloo, ON N2J 4V3
To receive a loan this year you will need to apply before December 1. A limited amount of funding is available each year.
We will set up a home inspection if you qualify. If you need repairs right away because of a water leak or other urgent issue, call 519-575-4400.
This program is funded by the federal and provincial governments through the Investment in Affordable Housing (IAH) Program.
