Waterloo’s Mayor, Dave Jaworsky, who was re-elected in 2018, also represents the city as a member of Regional Council.

Dave has lived in Waterloo Region since graduating from the University of Waterloo in 1988. As a student, he chose UW for its strong collaboration with the business community and its focus on co-op programs. Later in his career, Dave supported that collaboration by contributing to the co-op partnership as an executive at BlackBerry.

In leadership roles at BlackBerry, Dave worked extensively with universities and all levels of government on a range of issues, including economic development, education and taxation. Waterloo is Canada’s education city, with three exceptional post-secondary institutions, with approximately 40,000 students attending school on the aptly-named University Avenue. Dave believes our two universities, college and research institutes are at the core of our future success. World-leading discovery, combined with excellence in entrepreneurship, and a culturally diverse, welcoming community, will allow Waterloo to compete on a global scale.

In the past decade, he has volunteered with a wide variety of organizations and was a founding member of the FIRST Robotics Waterloo organizing committee that brought this inspirational high school competition to Waterloo.

He has made contributions to the community as a board or committee member for organizations such as KW Community Foundation, the Greater KW Chamber of Commerce, KidsAbility, Capacity Canada and Waterloo Minor Hockey Association.

As Mayor of Waterloo, Dave is committed to fostering prosperity and promoting a vibrant and caring community.

Dave has been appointed by Regional Council to the following Committees, Boards, Project Teams, Working Groups and Studies:
