Sandy Shantz was re-elected for a third term as Mayor of Woolwich Township in 2022 and, in her role as Mayor, is also a member of Regional Council.
A life long resident of Waterloo Region, Sandy has lived in Elmira for the past 38 years with her husband Brian, where they raised three sons. She enjoys spending time with her sons, daughters-in-law and five grandchildren.
Sandy has a liberal arts background with studies in Business, Psychology, and Religious Studies. Sandy began her political career in 1997 as a Trustee for the Waterloo Region District School Board where she served until 2003, including a term as Board Chair. She was a Township Councillor from 2006-2010. Sandy has held Board positions in daycare, schools, Woolwich Minor Hockey, and St. Mary’s Hospital, as well as Mennonite Church Eastern Canada and St. Jacobs Mennonite Church.
Solving social issues like housing, drug use, and job creation will take a coordinated effort among our municipalities. Our unique community contributions and individual strengths is what makes Waterloo Region work, and we need to lean into those strengths this term in order to be successful.
