Sean Strickland was re-elected Regional Councillor representing Waterloo in 2018.

Sean was first elected to public office in 1993, as a trustee with the Waterloo Regional District School Board. Sean then served as a City of Waterloo Councillor from 1997 to 2000 and Waterloo Regional Councillor for four terms -- 1997-2000, 2000-2003, 2006-2010 and 2010-2014 and is currently serving his 5th term for 2018-2022.

Sean is a life-long resident of Kitchener-Waterloo and lives in Waterloo with his wife and two children. He attended St. Jerome's High School in Kitchener and graduated from Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate Institute. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Waterloo. He has also completed the Master Manager program at Wilfrid Laurier University and has attended the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.

As Regional Councillor, Sean serves on all standing committees of council. He chaired the Community Services Committee during the 2000-2003, 2006-2010 and 2010-2014 Council terms, and chaired the Administration and Finance, Budget, and Audit Committees from 2014-2021. Sean has been active on many other Regional committees, project teams, studies and working groups. Most recently, he has served on the Economic Development and Promotion Committee, Audit Committee, Jack Young Civic Award Committee, Region of Waterloo History Museum Steering Committee, Grand River Conservation Authority, Long-Term Budget Strategy working group, Regional Development Charges working group, Regional Transportation Master Plan and Waterloo Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade.

Sean has been committed to the community throughout his life. He served as the executive director of the Food Bank of Waterloo Region from 1990 to 2003 and was active on the Executive of the Ontario Association and Canadian Association of Food Banks. He is also the proud recipient of the Canada 125 Medal for Community Service. He has served on numerous community boards and committees including the Highland-Stirling Community Group, Catholic Family Counselling Centre, Wilfrid Laurier University Board, Project Lift Board and the Grand River Hospital Board. Sean has also been active coaching minor sports in Kitchener, Waterloo and Woolwich.
