Joe Gowing is proud to serve as Regional Councillor for Waterloo Region, bringing a strong record of community leadership, financial expertise, and public service to the role.

Born and raised in Cambridge, and now a resident of Kitchener for the past 15 years, Joe has dedicated more than two decades to serving his community through volunteerism, advocacy, and elected leadership. He currently serves as President of the Preston Legion Branch 126 and Deputy Zone Commander for Zone C2, where he works to support veterans, seniors, and youth across the region. His commitment to public service began early, when he was elected as one of Ontario’s youngest school board trustees, an experience that shaped his understanding of how decisions at the table directly impact people’s lives.

Professionally, Joe has built a career as an Investment and Insurance Specialist, helping families plan for retirement, achieve homeownership, and build financial security. With previous roles at major Canadian banks and credit unions, he brings practical knowledge of housing, affordability, and economic planning to regional decision-making.

Joe is committed to working collaboratively with council colleagues, local organizations, and residents to build a stronger, more resilient Waterloo Region, guided by the voices and priorities of the community.

Joe has been appointed by Regional Council to the following Committees, Boards, Project Teams, Working Groups and Studies:
