About the Respondents
There were 75 respondents in total. Of these, 18 had worked with an affordable housing program before and 57 had not. Respondents own or manage properties across Waterloo Region:
- 56% have units in Kitchener
- 39% have units in Waterloo
- 27% have units in Cambridge
- 5% have units in the Townships
Respondents own or manage the following number of units:
- 46% have 1-10 units
- 16% have 11-20 units
- 13% have 21-50 units
- 25% have 50+ units
The most common methods respondents use to find tenants are 1) listing sites, 2) word of mouth, 3) referrals from current tenants, 4) social media, and 5) working with a community organization.
Working with Affordable Housing Programs
The top reasons to work with affordable housing programs are:
- Supports for successful tenancies
- Helping people in the community
- Incentives and funding available
The subjects that respondents would most like to receive information about are:
- Capital funding and grants available
- Landlord and tenant rights and responsibilities
- Different affordable housing programs
- Resources and supports for tenancies
Respondents would most like to receive information through 1) a website, 2) a handbook or toolkit, 3) information sessions and 4) newsletters.
Supports and Incentives
The top incentives that interest or might interest respondents are
- Funds for damages (86%)
- Funds to prevent vacancy losses (73%)
- Funds to secure units (61%)
- Signing bonuses (58%).
The top supports that interest or might interest respondents are
- Renters coming in with insurance (87%)
- Rent paid directly to them (83%)
- One point of contact to navigate concerns (75%)
- Regular home visits by a worker (74%).
