Matt Rodrigues

Matt was appointed to Regional Council in 2025 representing the residents of Kitchener.

Matt looks forward to bringing his energy to Regional Council, with a focus on making sure that our community can respond to the challenges of today, while keeping our sights set on a bold future for all residents.

Shortly after graduating from the University of Waterloo as class valedictorian, Matt moved to Downtown Kitchener in 2018 and quickly immersed himself in the community, attending events, and meeting new neighbours along the way.

With experience working as an urban planner across Ontario, he knows what it takes to plan a great Region, engage those typically left out of the discussion, and build connected neighbourhoods. As someone who rents, and relies on transit and cycling to get around, Matt understands and experiences the barriers many in our community face when accessing important Regional services.

Matt and his partner Eric are proud to call Downtown Kitchener home.

Matt has been appointed by Regional Council to the following Committees, Boards, Project Teams, Working Groups and Studies:

Standing Committees

  • Administration and Finance
  • Budget
  • Community and Health Services
  • Sustainability, Infrastructure and Development

Other Appointments
