Regional Government
The Regional Municipality of Waterloo was officially established on January 1, 1973 replacing the former County of Waterloo that had been established by the Province in 1853. The new Regional government was empowered to coordinate planning, to overcome duplication of services, to provide a fair and equal standard of physical and human services, and to protect the citizens of the Region.

The members of Regional Council are elected to serve a four-year term. You can meet the Regional Chair and Councillors and stay informed about developments in the Region through news releases, agendas and minutes of Council and its committees.
All of the departments work cooperatively to ensure professional, timely and citizen-centered services to the citizens of Waterloo Region.
