Construction Notice: Bleams Rd/River Rd extension, City of Kitchener, July–November 2024
About the project
We are improving the intersection at Wilson Avenue and Goodrich Drive by adding a roundabout with new concrete curbs and asphalt surfaces. We are also adding a multi-use trail and replacing the storm sewer.
Timing — starts July 22, 2024
Construction will begin July 22 through to November 2024. The roundabout will open in October 2024. Additional construction, including street lighting, boulevard, and landscape restoration, will continue into November 2024.
Closures — Wilson Avenue and Goodrich Drive
Wilson Avenue and Goodrich Drive intersection will be closed to through traffic. Only local access will be allowed. Two-way traffic will be maintained on Wilson Avenue from north of Goodrich Drive to Wabanaki Drive, and on Goodrich Drive from Wabanaki Drive to east of Wilson Avenue.
Detour
Fairway Road—Manitou Drive—Wabanaki Drive
There may be periods during construction when traffic will need to travel on a temporary asphalt or gravel surface and when the work crew will direct traffic.
During this closure, there will be detours in place for the GRT bus routes 10 and 110. Visit grt.com/detours for more information.
Emergency Services (Police, Fire, Paramedics) have been notified of the construction, closures and detours to minimize any service disruptions.
Pedestrian access
The sidewalks in this area will remain accessible during the project. Pedestrians should follow the signs as they walk through the area.
Property and business access
All businesses in the construction area will remain open and accessible during construction. Every effort will be made to maintain access to business driveways in the construction area during working hours (7 a.m.–7 p.m.). Construction activities may temporarily impact access to entrances. We will provide notice of any interruption in advance as much as possible.
Please plan for some delays and travel carefully in the construction zone. We request that when driving or walking through and around the construction zone you follow and obey the construction traffic signage for your safety and for the safety of the workers.
