  • Region approves amendments to Code of Use By-law for 100 Victoria Street

    Waterloo Region – This morning at a Special Council meeting, Region of Waterloo Council approved amendments to the Code of Use By-law for 100 Victoria Street North in Kitchener.   The revised by-law:   defers the possession date to April 1, 2026, to recognize the added time needed to resolve the proceedings before the Superior Court of Justice;   removes the offence provision for the By-law recognizing that it is the Region’s objective to obtain vacant possession and not to penalize the marginalised persons on the property; and  codifies a transition process to provide greater assurance that the Region will work to provide alternative accommodation.

  • “Home is Where the Heart is” will welcome residents and visitors to Langs Housing Redevelopment

    Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo has selected new public artwork for the Langs Housing redevelopment.  “Home Is Where the Heart Is” by artist team Jah Qube and Phillip Saunders, celebrates the importance of a place to call home and will be installed at the main entrance to 589 Langs Drive, Cambridge.

  • Special public meeting scheduled for input on proposed 100 Victoria Site Specific By-law amendments

    Waterloo Region – A special public meeting has been scheduled for Region of Waterloo Council to receive public input on proposed amendments to the 100 Victoria Street North Site Specific By-law on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 6 p.m.

  • Region and SHIP launch new women-focused housing and support program for 66 individuals Waterloo Region - Today, the Region and Services and Housing in the Province (SHIP) officially opened emergency shelter, transitional housing, and supportive housing spaces for 66 women and gender-diverse individuals. Regional Council approved the purchase of the building at 84 Frederick Street in 2024, making a critical investment in emergency shelter and future affordable housing in downtown Kitchener.
  • Region’s National Housing Day event recognizes local “Housing Heroes” Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo hosted its annual National Housing Day event today at the Kitchener Public Library. The event brought together community leaders who are working towards creating affordable housing and ending homelessness in Waterloo Region.
  • Region, local partners and federal government working together to end Veteran homelessness Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo and its partners are working together to prevent and address Veteran homelessness. The Region's Ending Veteran Homelessness Initiative (EVII) is supported with $3,077,080 in funding as announced today by the Government of Canada.
  • Superior Court Hearing adjourned to February 2026 to pursue mediation Waterloo Region - The hearing of the Region's application on the Site-Specific By-law for 100 Victoria Street North, originally scheduled for November 19 to 21, 2025, has been adjourned to February 2026. During this adjournment, the parties have agreed to engage in mediation regarding the Region's Site-Specific By-law.
  • Region’s overnight warming spaces will open November 1 Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo is working closely with partners and the Plan to End Chronic Homelessness co-creators to support people experiencing homelessness to stay warm and safe this winter. The Region will open two overnight warming spaces and continue to support two newly opened shelters for women and gender diverse individuals.
  • Region of Waterloo creating more child care spaces through innovative modular centres on WRDSB properties Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo is investing $4.4 million in modular child care centres on Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) properties to create much needed child care spaces.
  • Region Celebrates Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo is recognizing Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day today with events at child care centres across Waterloo Region. The day celebrates the commitment, hard work, and dedication of Early Childhood Educators (ECE) and staff who work with young children in the community.
