  • Final week for Cambridge Pinebush vaccination clinic Waterloo Region –This is the final week for the Cambridge Pinebush vaccination clinic that was set up as a temporary location to deal with an expected surge in demand for the new bivalent vaccines. Now that it is no longer needed, Public Health will return to operation of the regional vaccination clinics and mobile community outreach.
  • Pfizer bivalent booster doses available starting October 17 for anyone 12+ in Waterloo Region Waterloo Region - Starting Monday, October 17 anyone 12 years of age and older who has completed their primary series of COVID-19 vaccinations is now eligible for a bivalent booster dose at a regional vaccination clinic, or at a participating pharmacy or doctor's office across Waterloo Region. The Pfizer COVID-19 bivalent vaccine is recommended for individuals 12+ as a booster dose at six months since the previous dose (or at least three months with informed consent).
  • Food Recall Alert The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced that Keampferia Galanga Powder (sand ginger powder) is being recalled from the marketplace due to aconitine contamination. The toxin, aconitine, comes from the roots of a poisonous plant.
  • Notice of Pesticide Use (1) Waterloo Region: Please be advised of the application of larvicide to the following locations for the control of West Nile Virus Vectors: Catch basins Sewage lagoonsDitches and standing waterBetween June 1, 2022 and August 31, 2022, municipalities within the Region of Waterloo will be conducting a larviciding program under the authority of the Region of Waterloo Medical Officer of Health to prevent the development of mosquito larvae into vectors of West Nile Virus. Altosid Pellets (PCP #21809, pellet) or VectoLex WSP (PCP #28009, pouch) will be placed by hand into catch basins of storm drains within the Region.
  • First influenza case in Waterloo Region for the 2021-2022 season Waterloo Region - The first lab-confirmed case of influenza A has been reported in a child in the Region of Waterloo. Sporadic cases of influenza A and B are occurring across Ontario, but overall, influenza activity throughout the province is considered to be low.
  • KidsAbility partners with Region of Waterloo to make it easier for children who need extra support to get the COVID-19 vaccine Waterloo Region – KidsAbility, an organization with a long history of supporting children in the community, is partnering with the Region of Waterloo to host vaccination clinics for children who would benefit from getting the vaccine in a supportive and comfortable environment. Starting this weekend, vaccination clinics at KidsAbility locations in Waterloo and Cambridge will make it easier for some of the region’s most vulnerable children to get vaccinated.
  • Public Health declares an outbreak with high-risk exposure to patrons Waterloo Region – Region of Waterloo Public Health has declared a workplace outbreak at Junior’s Sportsbar & Grill. Five cases have been reported to date and are amongst staff.
