Redirecting plumbing to soften hot water only
Redirecting your existing plumbing pipes so your salt-based water softener only connects to the hot water supply in your home has many benefits, including:
- a one-time $50 rebate – available for a limited time.
- saving you money by using less water and salt over the life of the system.
- protecting your water heater and hot-water appliances from hard-water scale (mineral build-up), which happens faster in hot water.
- reducing the environmental impact of chlorides (from softener salt) in wastewater entering local waterways.
Criteria to qualify for a $50 rebate
You must:
- own a single, semi-detached or townhome in Waterloo Region on municipal water
- use a salt-based softener
- have redirected your plumbing from softening both hot and cold water to softening hot water only OR installed a new water softener that only softens hot water.
Note: The purchase of a new water softener alone does not qualify you for the rebate
Businesses and large apartment buildings are not eligible.
How to receive the rebate
- Complete plumbing changes to redirect pipes to only soften hot water yourself or hire a plumber. We have a list of licensed plumbers and water softener retailers that support the program.
- Complete the application form to confirm your plumbing has been redirected and submit itemized plumbing receipts.
- Once approved, we'll be in touch to set up an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) to allow for a direct deposit of your $50 rebate.
