Conserving Water
If you live in Waterloo Region and are familiar with the water capacity constraint, you may wonder if conservation can help. Reducing water use is always important because it helps manage and protect the supply we have, especially during warm, dry weather. The community has done a great job to conserve over the years, and we will keep this up with your help. Learn more about conservation below and find more information on the constraint by visiting the FAQs in the water capacity information hub.

Water Conservation By-law for outdoor water use
Every year from May 31 to September 30, our Water Conservation By-law 07-069 helps to reduce strain on our community's water system during the hottest, driest months, when demand is highest.
Since 2005, the by-law has been successfully lowering peak summer water use by 20 to 30 per cent. Before the by-law, water use during hot, dry periods often climbed 50 per cent above normal levels.
Learn more about the by-law and find your outdoor water use schedule (based on your property address) on the Outdoor Water Use and Restrictions page.
Thank you to residents and businesses for continuing to follow the by-law and making water-wise choices.
