University Avenue

The Region of Waterloo is improving University Avenue from Albert Street to Weber Street in Waterloo. This project is currently in the design phase following a schedule C environmental assessment study. Based on the technical information and public feedback gathered, the Region is designing a roadway that includes:
- Four lanes of traffic
- Separated bike lanes with a physical barrier
- Curb and gutter storm drainage system
- Enhanced 2.1m wide sidewalks
- Intersection improvements
Schedule
Environmental assessment: 2020–2023
Design and planning: 2023–2026
Construction phase 1 (Weber to King): 2027–2028
Construction phase 2 (King to Albert): 2030–2031
Note: timing may be affected by weather conditions and changing project scope; updates will be posted as needed.
