Building on the community investment in ION light rail, the KCTH is the next evolution of our world-class transit system.

The KCTH will offer:

• A Central Connection Point: Linking intercity and provincial bus routes, GO Transit, VIA Rail, and local transit.
• Multi-Modal & Accessible Mobility: Designed for pedestrians, cyclists, and commuters with seamless connectivity.
• Sustainable Transportation: Providing more options for travellers choosing sustainable transportation, reducing emissions, and fostering a cleaner future.

Design, development and construction of the Transit Hub is made possible through the Region of Waterloo’s partnership with Metrolinx.

Original Master Planning of the Kitchener Central Transit Hub was done in 2016-2017 and the project continues to evolve. Currently, the Region of Waterloo is updating plans and phasing of the Transit Hub project. 

Early project work will begin as early as 2025, including:

• King Street Pedestrian Bridge
• Road improvements to Victoria Street and Duke Street
• Rail improvements
• Platform infrastructure
• Construction of the Transit Hub site and Bus Loop

Central Station is anticipated to begin welcoming travellers in 2029.
