Sawmill Road at Ebycrest Road
Overview
Project number: 07553 | Updated: August 2026
The Region of Waterloo is constructing a single-lane roundabout at the Sawmill Road and Ebycrest Road intersection in Woolwich. This decision is based on technical studies and the Region's current experience with roundabouts and input received from the public during the engagement period.
The technical studies for this project show:
- A roundabout would result in fewer injury collisions than the signalized intersection
- A roundabout would result in fewer delays to all users
- Life cycle cost of a roundabout is equal or better than the traffic signal with left turn lanes
- A roundabout would reduce idling times resulting in fuel savings and reduced emissions
Construction will be taking place in stages:
- Stage 1: Bloomingdale Road and Kraft Drive (August - October 2026)
- Stage 2: Sawmill Road and Kraft Drive (October 2026)
- Stage 3: Sawmill/Ebycrest/Bloomingdale/Kraft - Full closure (October - November 2026)

Getting around during construction
Construction will begin on or about August 24, 2026, with the main work expected to be completed by November 2026.
During Stage 1, Bloomingdale Road and Kraft Drive will be closed to through traffic, with local access maintained. Two-way traffic will remain on Sawmill Road and Ebycrest Road.
Drivers can use Bridge Street and Ebycrest Road as detour routes. Traffic may travel on gravel surfaces and be controlled by flag persons at times. Delays are expected.
