St. Andrews Storage and Pumping Station

The Region of Waterloo is enhancing water services at 266 St. Andrews Street in Cambridge (Zone 3). The work includes installing a storage tank, valve chamber, installation of two new watermains within the site and an overflow connection to the existing storm system on St. Andrews Street.

This project will increase water storage and pumping capacity to support current and future water needs in Cambridge and North Dumfries, while advancing planned upgrades to the Region's water system. Construction will take place in two phases:

Phase one includes:

Building a new storage tank

Phase two includes:

Upgrading the pumping station
Decommissioning the existing standpipe
Replacing the site driveway and fencing

Schedule

Design and planning: 2025–2026
Construction phase 1: July 2026 – January 2027
Construction phase 2: Spring 2027–Winter 2028

Budget

Phase 1: $2.4 million
Phase 2: $3 million

Construction impacts

Phase 1 construction is expected to begin on or about July 21 and will take place Monday to Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Noise by-laws of the City of Cambridge will be in effect.

During construction, a temporary partial lane closure will be in place on St. Andrews Street near the St. Andrews Street and Southwood Drive intersection. Where lane closures are required, two-way traffic will be maintained in a single lane using flagging operations or temporary traffic signals.

Road users should expect delays, use caution when travelling through the area, and follow all posted signage for their safety and the safety of workers.
