  • Notice of Pesticide Use Waterloo Region: Please be advised of the application of larvicide to the following locations for the control of West Nile Virus Vectors: Catch basins Sewage lagoonsDitches and standing waterBetween May 10, 2021 and September 30, 2021, municipalities within the Region of Waterloo will be conducting a larviciding program under the authority of the Region of Waterloo Medical Officer of Health to prevent the development of mosquito larvae into vectors of West Nile Virus. Altosid Pellets (PCP #21809, pellet) or VectoLex WSP (PCP #28009, pouch) will be placed by hand into catch basins of storm drains within the Region.

  • Library Staff Support Vaccination Rollout Across Waterloo Region Waterloo Region – Adults 80 years of age and older, who have pre-registered for the COVID-19 vaccine, will be getting a phone call in the coming days and weeks from the staff of one of our local library systems to book their vaccination appointment. Staff of Kitchener Public Library, Waterloo Public Library, Idea Exchange (Cambridge), and Region of Waterloo Library (serving the townships) have offered to navigate the online appointment system so everyone in our vulnerable older population – who has indicated a phone call is their preferred way to be contacted – is booked for their immunization.

  • Asymptomatic testing for school staff at local pharmacies Waterloo Region – As part of an enhanced testing strategy to support in-person learning in Ontario, Region of Waterloo Public Health has worked with the Province on the expansion of asymptomatic testing at pharmacies to include school staff. Interested school/board staff will need to make an appointment at participating pharmacies and provide the name of their school/board office.
  • Working to Improve Neighbourhood Safety (WINS) launches expanded two-year pilot project Waterloo Region – In partnership with area municipalities and Sanguen Health Centre, Region of Waterloo Public Health and Emergency Services is launching a two-year pilot project to expand the Working to Improve Neighbourhood Safety (WINS) program. WINS is a peer-based needle recovery project that aims to reduce needle and harm reduction litter while providing education about safe disposal and making connections within the community.
