  • Regional Council approves Water Supply Capacity Allocation Policy to support future growth

    The Region of Waterloo Water Supply Capacity Allocation Policy has been developed to ensure a fair, simple and fully transparent way to transfer water supply capacity to area municipalities in the Mannheim Service Area to support future growth, as water becomes available. 

  • Internationally recognized expert appointed to help address water capacity constraint

    Waterloo Region – An internationally recognized expert in water utility management will join the Region of Waterloo on an interim basis to help address and prioritize solutions to the water capacity constraint in the Mannheim Service Area.  The Region has appointed Kenneth Brothers as the Interim Commissioner of Water Services and Wastewater Operations, to work with the development industry, area municipalities, and the province to accelerate work to build operational resiliency and add new water capacity.

  • Notice of Completion: Wellesley Water and Wastewater Master Plan Notice of Completion: Wellesley Water and Wastewater Master Plan The Region of Waterloo has completed a Water and Wastewater Master Plan (WWWMP) for the Village of Wellesley. The study was completed as a Master Plan under Approach #2 of the Municipal Engineers Association’s (MEA) Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) process (MEA 2000, as amended 2007, 2011, 2015, 2023, 2024).
  • Region moves quickly on pivotal solution for water capacity constraint

    Waterloo Region - Regional Council has approved funding to fast-track a pivotal short-term solution to address the Mannheim Service Area water capacity constraint. With this funding, the Region will pilot innovative modular technology at the Mannheim Water Treatment Plant.

  • Preliminary solutions identified to address Mannheim Service Area water issue

    Waterloo Region – Working with partners and industry, the Region has identified several preliminary solutions to address the current water issue within the Mannheim Service Area.   In addition to the preliminary solutions, the Region is accelerating repair and maintenance work, and major infrastructure investments.

  • Public meeting: St. Jacobs Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion, January 22, 7–8 p.m.

    The Region of Waterloo has been working on a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment to evaluate ways to expand the St. Jacobs Wastewater Treatment Plant located at 61 Water Street in St.

  • Water capacity constraint confirmed; Region of Waterloo adopting revised water supply methodology

    Waterloo Region – Using a revised methodology to calculate remaining water supply capacity for development and protecting operational sustainability, the Region has confirmed a constraint in the Mannheim Service Area. This revised methodology is better suited to a groundwater-based system and more accurately reflects the actual capacity available in the Region’s water system today.

  • Water Capacity Issue Identified; No Impact to Water Quality

    Waterloo Region – Through on-going work and updates to the Water Supply Strategy, a water capacity issue has been identified within the Mannheim Service Area, which supplies water to Kitchener, Waterloo, and parts of Cambridge, Woolwich, and Wilmot. While water monitoring reports have consistently shown significant capacity, a combination of factors, including aging infrastructure, lower levels of water in the system, and the pressures of rapid growth, are impacting water supply capacity.

  • Carlsberg Canada’s facility upgrades earned them the Region’s Water Efficiency Excellence Award

    Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo is proud to recognize Carlsberg Canada with the annual Water Efficiency Excellence Award. The award was presented at the Regional Council meeting on October 22, 2025.
