Workplace Count
Count your business in!
The Region of Waterloo, in partnership with local municipalities and Waterloo Economic Development Corporation (Waterloo EDC), is conducting the 2026 Rural Business Workplace Count Survey.
The information provided by business owners helps the Region and its partners plan for:
- business support programs
- infrastructure and services
- future economic development
- stronger connections with rural businesses
The survey takes about 5 minutes to complete. Questions include topics such as:
- number of employees
- type of business
- where products or services are sold
- basic business information
If you own a business in Waterloo Region that is not located on a farm, visit engagewr.ca/workplacecount to learn more or complete the survey here.
Is your business located on a farm?
There is a separate survey for rural on-farm, non-agricultural businesses – businesses located on farms in Waterloo Region that are not mainly focused on growing crops or raising animals.
Who should take the survey:
- Businesses located on farms in the Waterloo Region that are not mainly focused on growing crops or raising animals.
- This includes businesses operating on a farm property that provide products or services other than primary farming.
Rural, on-farm business survey here
Printed copies of the survey can be completed in person by picking up/dropping off a copy at your local Town Hall or any Region of Waterloo Library branch.
All businesses are encouraged to complete the survey by September 1, 2026
Businesses that complete the survey will be entered into a draw to win one of ten $100 gift cards to local businesses.
All responses will be kept anonymous. Information from the survey will be combined with other responses, and that information is used to better understand the rural business landscape and to support planning for future growth, services, and infrastructure.
