Nomination period closes for the 2026 municipal election

Waterloo RegionThe paperwork is filed and candidates are registered as Waterloo Region voters prepare to head to the polls this fall. Candidate nominations for the 2026 municipal election closed at 2 p.m. on August 21, 2026. 

To find out who the candidates are in your municipality, visit www.wrvotes.com and click your city or township logo to learn more.

This year’s nomination period opened on May 1. The Clerks from each local municipality have reviewed and certified all nominations.

On October 26, voters will elect Councillors for regional, city and township councils, as well as Mayors for area municipalities and School Board Trustees.

The cities and townships will offer voters a range of voting options. Check your local municipal website to find what options are available to you. Many municipalities have scheduled advance voting dates prior to the October 26 election day. Visit www.wrvotes.com to find out more.
