  • Join the Region for Waste Discovery Day for a free, family-friendly event and guided landfill tours

    Waste Discovery Day will feature family-fun attractions including guided bus tours of the Waterloo landfill, a falconer meet and greet, face painting, mint planting, children’s games, a food truck, and a look at some of the equipment used in waste management. 

  • Region hosting community drop off events for old green bins

    Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo is hosting seven community drop off events for residents who would like to recycle their old green bins. Residents can also drop them off at either of the Region’s Waste Management sites (201 Savage Drive, Cambridge and 925 Erb St.

  • Week two of new cart-based waste collection is underway

    Waterloo Region – Week two of the new cart-based waste collection begins today with the return to regularly scheduled bi-weekly garbage pickup. Week one wrapped up yesterday (Monday) with crews working around the clock over the weekend to complete waste pick up for carts properly set out.

  • More resources brought in for first week of new waste collection

    Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo and Emterra brought in more resources to support the curbside waste collection program as it rolls out in its first week. All households receiving waste collection from the Region are receiving garbage and organics this week to offer a fresh start as the new program rolls out.

  • Let’s Roll: New carts-based collection starting tomorrow

    Waterloo Region - The Region of Waterloo's new cart-based collection service for garbage and organics launches tomorrow, Tuesday, March 3. This week, all households will receive both garbage collection in the new black carts and organics collection in the new green carts.

  • New carts-based collection rolling out March 3

    Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo’s new cart-based collection service for garbage and organics is launching on Tuesday, March 3. All households receiving waste collection from the Region will receive both garbage and organics collection in the first week to ensure everyone has a fresh start, and then will receive the following frequency: Garbage collection (black carts) will remain every other week Organics collection (green carts) will remain weekly Bulky item collection will move to once a month Yard waste collection will remain every other week, Spring to Fall Recycling (blue box) is now managed by Circular Materials and will move to every other week, opposite of garbage Residents are encouraged to confirm their collection day, as it may be changing.

  • Declutter and give items a second life at the Garage Glow-Up

    Waterloo Region – To mark Circular Economy Month, the Region’s Waste Management Division is partnering with local organizations to host the Garage Glow-Up: Drop-Off Event for unwanted household items on Saturday, October 25.  Circular Economy Month is a public awareness campaign aimed at educating and empowering Canadians to support an economy that protects the planet and prioritizes people, with a focus on sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing, and recycling existing materials and products for as long as possible.

  • Black and green carts are rolling; park them until collection begins March 2026

    Waterloo Region – Black garbage and green organics carts will start to be delivered to Waterloo Region households this week with deliveries expected to run until the end of February. The delivery date of carts will vary across the community.

  • Free residential compost available Oct. 20

    Waterloo Region - Compost is available at both the Cambridge and Waterloo transfer stations beginning Monday, October 20 until Saturday, October 25 while supplies last.
