Join the Region for Waste Discovery Day for a free, family-friendly event and guided landfill tours
Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo invites the community to learn what happens after carts are collected during Waste Discovery Day, May 9, at the Waterloo Waste Management Site.
Waste Discovery Day will feature family-fun attractions including guided bus tours of the Waterloo landfill, a falconer meet and greet, face painting, mint planting, children’s games, a food truck, and a look at some of the equipment used in waste management.
“We are excited to invite residents to see what happens after waste is collected and how the waste management site operates,” said Colleen James, Regional Councillor and Chair of the Sustainability, Infrastructure and Development Committee. “Understanding how we can all find ways to reduce what we throw away helps extend the life of our landfill and create a more sustainable community.”
Residents can register here for guided tours, to see where their garbage, organics and yard waste go after it leaves the curb. Residents can also check out the new trucks that are used to collect the carts.
Waste Discovery Day is a free, fun, and family-friendly drop-in event that runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 925 Erb St. W. in Waterloo, Gate #1, with free on-site parking.
