Declutter and give items a second life at the Garage Glow-Up

Waterloo Region – To mark Circular Economy Month, the Region’s Waste Management Division is partnering with local organizations to host the Garage Glow-Up: Drop-Off Event for unwanted household items on Saturday, October 25.

Circular Economy Month is a public awareness campaign aimed at educating and empowering Canadians to support an economy that protects the planet and prioritizes people, with a focus on sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing, and recycling existing materials and products for as long as possible.

Residents looking to get rid of old bikes, electronics, clothing and batteries can come to the Waterloo Waste Management Site at 925 Erb St. W, Gate #1, Waterloo, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and drop off their items free of charge.

Dropped off items will be sorted and given a second life in the circular economy through recycling, reusing or repurposing. Electronics will be securely disposed of or recycled. To do this, the Region is partnering with MCC New Hamburg Thrift CentreThe Working Centre, and Quantum Lifecycle Partners LP.

“This is a great opportunity to clean out the garage, clear some space, and make a positive impact,” said Colleen James, Regional Councillor and Chair of the Sustainability, Infrastructure and Development Committee. “If you have a box of clothes waiting to be donated or a bike that’s been gathering dust, bring them out so they can be used and appreciated again.”

Registration is not required, but residents can get more information and tickets on the event page

For other items that don’t fit into this event, the Region’s Waste Whiz app is a resource residents can use for help on how to properly dispose of waste materials.
