Rapid transit to Cambridge to transform Waterloo Region
Waterloo Region – The Region is moving ahead with Stage 2 Rapid Transit to Cambridge, building on the transformative impact of Stage 1. The first phase provided a convenient, reliable and affordable way for people to get where they need to go and resulted in more than $5 billion of investment in the community.
"Extending rapid transit to Cambridge is not just about transit, it is about shaping the future of our community," said Region of Waterloo Chair Karen Redman. "This project represents a critical investment in the region's growth and the quality of life for residents, reinforcing our vision for a sustainable future."
The next milestone is completing the Initial Business Case (IBC), bringing us closer to our goal of connecting Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo with rapid transit, solidifying Waterloo Region as a desirable place to live and work.
The preliminary IBC results will be presented to Regional Council and the public in September, including benefits and costs of rapid transit. In November, staff will bring a recommendation to Council on how to advance to the next phase of the project.
Residents and stakeholders will have opportunities to engage through workshops, surveys and information sessions, sharing their insights and priorities on the Stage 2 project this month. Stay informed; share your thoughts and discover how you can get involved at engageWR.ca/stage2ion.
