Region in negotiations with Unifor, Local 4304
Waterloo Region – Employees at the Region of Waterloo provide services to almost 650,000 residents daily. This work is critical, valued, and appreciated.
The Region is now in negotiations with Unifor, Local 4304, representing some workers employed by Grand River Transit (GRT).
We continue to work closely with Unifor and both parties are committed to reaching an agreement that is both competitive for GRT staff and affordable for residents.
Currently, Unifor, Local 4304, will be in a legal strike position as early as Friday, May 1, 2026.
In the event of a strike, conventional bus and MobilityPLUS services will not operate. ION train service will continue as it is maintained and operated by Keolis.
The Region appreciates that residents rely on transit daily and are committed to updating customers and residents with information as it becomes available.
Monthly passes will automatically renew on April 25. Customers may wish to cancel the autorenewal for their EasyGo fare card in advance of any potential service disruptions. To cancel your autorenewal, visit https://www.grt.ca/en/fares-passes/manage-your-card-online.aspx
