Region of Waterloo awarded for technology solution with 2025 Excellence in Municipal Systems Award
Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo was recognized with a 2025 Excellence in Municipal Systems Award for Designing and Delivering a Digital Solution to Enhance Road Safety.
Selected by a panel of representatives from various Ontario municipalities, the award is presented by the Municipal Information Systems Association (MISA) Ontario to recognize people and organizations for excellence in the use and delivery of technology.
The award-winning technology solution was designed to meet the software needs and service goals required to support the expansion of the Municipal Speed Camera Program. Launched in February 2025, the new platform offers a user-friendly, streamlined, end-to-end service with a public-facing platform that provides 24/7 digital self-service options for residents.
“We are pleased to receive this award recognizing our team’s ability to capitalize on efficiencies and cost savings through this technology,” said Karen Redman, Regional Chair. “On behalf of Regional Council, I’d like to acknowledge the Region’s dedicated staff that made this a reality.”
The new platform has helped significantly reduce manual processes and delays, expanded customer service channels, and increased online payment transactions from 58 per cent to almost 90 per cent.
The Excellence in Municipal Information Systems Award was presented to the Region at the awards banquet held at the 2025 MISA Ontario Annual Conference and Trade Show in Windsor on Monday, June 2, 2025.
